Manager, Student Programs & Recruitment - Calgary
Our Calgary office is hiring for a newly created position! The Manager, Student Programs & Recruitment will report to the Calgary Director of Talent Management, and focus on managing summer and articling student programs, recruitment, and professional development initiatives for summer law students, articling students, and lateral hires. The position emphasizes strategic planning, relationship-building with law schools, and ensuring the effective integration and growth of new legal talent within the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Programs & Recruitment: Plan and execute recruitment and engagement events (e.g., workshops, career fairs, networking sessions) at law schools, in the firm, and virtually. Oversee the recruitment process for summer and articling students, including application management, interview coordination, and candidate communication. Administer CPLED registration, orientation, professional development programs, and performance reviews. Maintain ongoing communication with students, organize social events, and coordinate Student Bar Call activities.
- Associate Recruitment: Support the hiring and onboarding of lateral associates and partners in collaboration with the Calgary Legal Talent Director. Deliver orientation programs for new hires.
- Professional Development: Design and implement onboarding and professional development programs for articling students. Contribute to national standardization efforts and ensure alignment with the firm’s culture.
Qualifications and Skills: The ideal candidate holds a law degree from a Canadian common law school and is a current member of the Alberta Law Society. The candidate should have direct experience mentoring law students and a strong understanding of Alberta’s student recruitment processes, Law Society of Alberta procedures and requirements, and inter-provincial transfer requirements. Key skills include exceptional organizational, communication, and project management abilities, proficiency in MS Office, and a collaborative, flexible work ethic.
