Role: 

The Director of Risk and Compliance is responsible for the strategic development and oversight of the organization's enterprise-wide risk management (ERM) and regulatory compliance programs. This role ensures that Gulf Winds Credit Union maintains internal equity and adheres to all federal and state regulations, protecting the institution's assets and reputation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

E    20%    Leads the development and execution of the Compliance Management System (CMS), ensuring full adherence to NCUA, BSA/AML, and UDAAP regulations.

E    15%    Assists with ongoing risk assessments to identify, measure, and control operational, strategic, and reputational risks.

E    15%    Acts as the secondary liaison for regulatory exams and internal/external audits, ensuring timely remediation of findings.

E    15%    Researches, interprets, and applies governing regulatory authority to draft and implement organizational policies.

E    15%    Provides leadership and strategic direction to the risk and compliance team, fostering a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.

E    15%    Partners with business units and IT/Cybersecurity teams to provide risk-aligned guidance on new products and services.

N    5%    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

1.    Achieve "Satisfactory" or better ratings on all NCUA and state regulatory examinations, with zero repeat findings from previous cycles.

2.    Ensure 100% of internal and external audit findings are addressed and remediated within the board-approved or management-stipulated timeframe.

3.    Maintain 100% completion rates for mandatory compliance training (BSA, OFAC, etc.) across all credit union staff within established deadlines.

4.    Complete an annual review and update of 100% of risk-related policies to ensure alignment with current federal and state laws.

5.    Ensure 100% of high-risk third-party vendors have current due diligence documentation and risk assessments on file prior to contract renewal.

6.    Maintain a loss-to-recovery ratio for fraud and operational errors that meets or exceeds the annual benchmarks set in the Strategic Risk Plan.

7.    Manage the Risk and Compliance department operating expenses to remain within +/- 5% of the annual budget.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.

Education: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Other Skills: 

  • Knowledge of State, Local, and Federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of Gulf Winds policies and procedures.
  • Active listening, Analytical, Organizational, and Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and speak English clearly.

Physical RequirementsMust adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Work Environment: The position is based in-office in our Pensacola, Florida market, operates primarily in an office setting, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.

This position requires consistent presence in the office to collaborate with team members and fulfill job responsibilities effectively. It requires the ability to actively participate in conference calls and meetings with other Credit Union team members and vendors.

The normal expected work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. After-hours work or travel required to meet project deadlines or attend conferences, seminars, or meetings.

Must adhere to safety rules and regulations.
