LIFEGUARD functions include but are not limited to the following:




  • Safety Enforcement:


    • Maintain order in the pool and surrounding areas by enforcing facility rules and regulations.

    • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.

    • Perform rescues, extrications, and provide first-aid, CPR/AED as required to ensure patron safety.



  • Emergency Response:

    • Respond quickly, intelligently, and decisively to emergencies, following established emergency and accident management procedures.

    • Maintain excellent physical condition to perform duties effectively and attend/participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions.



  • Customer Service:

    • Meet and greet customers, assisting and directing them to appropriate facilities or programs.

    • Handle customer issues and complaints professionally and in a timely manner, demonstrating thorough knowledge of department programs and activities.



  • Facility Maintenance:

    • Ensure facility cleanliness by performing janitorial and maintenance duties, including trash removal, restroom cleaning, and floor maintenance.

    • Perform maintenance tasks as needed to ensure pool cleanliness, such as vacuuming the pool and scrubbing pool plaster and tile.



  • Equipment and Chemical Monitoring:

    • Check pool chemicals such as chlorine and pH levels routinely, documenting the results.

    • Inspect and ensure the availability and operation of emergency equipment, including safety lines, AED, pool drains, ladders, and play features.



  • Setup and Breakdown:

    • Set up and break down tables and chairs for classes, trainings, or meetings as needed.



  • Documentation:

    • Document all operational checklists and check sheets, including pool opening, play feature, safety, daily operational, cleaning, and maintenance lists.



  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
