Job Description



  • Expected pay for this position is $16.87-$22.78. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

  • Job Summary




    • Operates a console telephone switchboard to receive and direct all incoming and intersystem calls promptly, accurately and courteously. Performs miscellaneous hospital communications and clerical duties that have been assigned or cleared by the Supervisor of Communications, providing the phone call volume permits.





  • Job Specifications




    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduation required. Experience as an operator of similar equipment is preferable, but on-the-job training is provided.







    • JOB KNOWLEDGE: No special job knowledge requirements.







    • ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:





      • Ability to accurately and quickly recognize names and numbers in the hospital directory and avoid errors in recording and paging.





      • Ability to relay routine and emergency telephone calls, medical, personnel, and administrative staff.





      • Ability to answer telephone calls and repeatedly page individuals throughout the day, in accordance with established procedures.





      • Ability to receive, relay and place telephone calls continually throughout the day, in accordance with hospital policies and prescribed methods of switchboard operations in a respectful and calm manner.




      • Ability to remain calm during emergency and stressful situations.



      • Ability to follow directions and guidelines.



      • Clear diction, good hearing and ability to memorize.



      • Ability to make sound decisions based on hospital and supervisor's guidelines.



      • Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
