    Description: Teacher Apprentice

    Position Summary: 

    The Teacher Apprentice provides instructional and classroom support while developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become an effective educator. Working under the supervision of a certified teacher, the Teacher Apprentice assists with classroom instruction, student support, and learning activities while gaining practical, hands-on experience in an educational setting. This position supports the development of future educators through structured experiences and professional learning while maintaining strong job performance and academic progress toward licensure.

    Reports To: Building Principal and Assigned Supervising Teacher 

    Payment Rate: Hourly Rate

    Qualifications:

    1. Must be a current employee of the Turner School District. 

    2. High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred. 

    3. Acceptance into a Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program (RTAP) at a participating college or university. 

    4. Demonstrated positive attendance through previous and ongoing employment experiences. 

    5. Passion for working with students and supporting their academic and social development. 

    6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

    7. Organizational skills and attention to detail. 

    8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. 

    9. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    1. Assist the supervising teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials and classroom activities. 

    2. Support classroom instruction through small group and individual student assistance.

    3. Monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

    4. Support students during classroom instruction, transitions, and independent work time. 

    5. Assist with grading assignments and providing feedback under the direction of the supervising teacher. 

    6. Collaborate with the supervising teacher to support lesson planning and instructional delivery aligned to curriculum goals. 

    7. Support classroom management, routines, and procedures to promote student engagement and participation. 

    8. Participate in observation, reflection, and feedback conversations with supervising staff. 

    9. Attend and actively participate in all required professional learning, including monthly New Teacher Induction (NTI) meetings. 

    10. Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance tracking, record-keeping, and organization of materials. 

    11. Communicate effectively with supervising teachers and staff regarding student progress and needs. 

    12. Demonstrate professionalism through consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability. 

    13. Maintain adequate progress toward completion of an educator preparation program. 

    14. Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA with no more than two consecutive semesters below a 2.5 and be able to provide documentation upon request. 

    15. Follow all district policies, procedures, and expectations. 

    16. Perform other related duties as assigned to support classroom and school operations.

     

    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: 

    1. Requires attendance at meetings and training sessions outside regular hours. 

    2. Requires significant time outside of regular hours working towards college credits.

    2. Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

    Terms of Employment: Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and Supervising Teacher in accordance with Board of Education
