About the Department
The City of Lansing is seeking a Concrete Finisher to join the Operations and Maintenance Division within the Public Service Department. This role involves maintaining concrete construction projects. It is a great opportunity for those who enjoy working outdoors and want to utilize their skills to provide excellent concrete services throughout the city.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operates and performs minor preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment including gradalls, tandem axle dump trucks, street sweepers, vacuum and flusher trucks, rollers, sewer cleaner (jet-vac), bob cats, forklifts, tractors, loaders, backhoes, and snow and ice removal equipment.
Operates heavy power tools and performs manual aspects of street, gutter, sidewalk, sewer and other repair work which requires lifting 50 pounds and 95 pounds on occasion.
Conducts safety checks and minor repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, may assist in the overhaul of equipment during winter months. Sets-up concrete forms within ADA compliance, prepare subbase for concrete placement, place and finish concrete.
Provides verbal, paper and tablet generated reports on daily work activities.
Provides verbal, written and tablet work direction to other employees.
Sets-up traffic control devices including cones and barricades and constantly monitors work for any potential safety hazards.
Constructs concrete flatwork, curbs, and gutters in municipal field operations, including formwork for concrete pours.
Ideal candidates will possess:
High School Diploma or GED
Three (3) years of experience operating a variety of manual and mechanical road construction equipment and heavy-duty trucks
Three (3) years of experience in the construction of concrete flatwork and curb & Gutter
Special Requirements:
May require overtime or shift work for snow and ice control operations and other emergencies.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License, Group A, with Air Brakes and N (tank) Endorsement.
This position requires the operation of a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more. Therefore, pursuant to Section 601a of the Michigan Vehicle Code, the applicant recommended for this position must be able to pass the physical examination mandated by the State of Michigan in order to be transferred or hired for this position.
