    Bilingual/ESL Instructional Assistant  
     
    The position of Bilingual/ESL Instructional Assistant will be available at East Central ISD for the 2025-2026 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.
     
    Position Function/Purpose:  Assist ESL teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.  Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.    

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    1. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
    2. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. 
    3. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
    4. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
    5. Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
    6. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
    7. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
    8. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside, and outside the classroom.  This includes the lunchroom, bus, and outside duty.
    9. Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students.
    10. Participate in staff development on SIOP, ELPS, and Dual Language strategies and other training programs to improve job performance.
    11. Have regular attendance.
    12. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the supplemental position.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
    Educational/Certification:
    High school graduate or equivalent
    Must have one of the following:
     
    • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
    • Treasuring our Paraprofessionals Certificate 
     
    Educational Aide Certificate
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Perform duties with minimum supervision
    Be fluent in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing  
     
    EQUIPMENT USED:  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment  

    WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).  Work with frequent interruptions.  Moderate amounts of standing, stooping, bending, lifting, and walking.  Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.  Frequent use of computer and repetitive hand motions.  Work inside and outside (exposure to the sun, heat, cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise.  Normal classroom environment.
     
    PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:  187 Days
    SALARY:  Paraprofessional Pay Grade 202, SCE and/or SCE-Bilingual Education Allotment
