Position Summary
CORPS Substitute Teachers are assigned to a specific school building for 180 instructional days, working 7 hours
per day at the daily substitute rate. While assigned to one site, CORPS subs may be reassigned to another
location within the district on any given day based on student or staffing needs.
Substitute Teachers provide classroom coverage in the absence of the regular teacher, maintaining a safe,
respectful, and productive learning environment. They follow lesson plans provided by the teacher or school and
are responsible for delivering instruction, managing student behavior, and supporting academic continuity.
Substitute Teachers serve students across various grade levels (P–12) and subject areas, depending on the
assignment.
This is a non-continuing, on-call position that plays a vital role in ensuring students continue to receive high-
quality instruction when the regular teacher is unavailable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide instruction to students following the teacher’s lesson plans or school direction.
• Manage classroom routines, transitions, and student behavior to maintain a focused and respectful learning
environment.
• Support students in understanding learning tasks and monitor their engagement.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with students and school staff.
• Leave appropriate documentation or notes for the returning teacher regarding student behavior,
instructional progress, and any concerns.
• Follow all school and district procedures, including safety and emergency protocols.
• Implement accommodations or modifications as outlined in IEPs or 504 plans, with available support.
• Supervise students in all settings during the assignment, including lunch, recess, or transitions, if required.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional responsibilities and ethical standards.
Qualifications
Required:
• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or Substitute Certificate
• Demonstrated ability to follow lesson plans and manage classrooms effectively
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to supporting all learners in an inclusive and respectful manner
• Flexibility and adaptability in a variety of school settings and grade levels

Preferred:
• Experience working with students in P–12 educational settings
• Familiarity with classroom technologies, student engagement strategies, and instructional best practices
• Willingness to accept short-notice assignments
Compensation
• Daily Rate: $175.00
• Hourly Equivalent: $25.00 per hour (based on a 7-hour workday)
