Job Description

Overview:

The Senior Director of Technology is a strategic and operational leader responsible for shaping and executing the organization’s technology vision. This role owns and governs enterprise systems, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, data strategy, and innovation initiatives, including artificial intelligence. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director ensures that technology investments are aligned with organizational priorities, scalable, secure, and enable mission impact across a geographically distributed workforce. This role provides executive guidance on enterprise technology strategy, prioritization, vendor selection, and architectural direction across the organization.

Serving as a key member of the Internal Operations Leadership team and a strategic parter and advisor to enterprise leaders, this role will ensure that the overall technology strategy supports mission critical business objectives and delivers measurable and sustainable change and adoption of technology features.  This role is pivotal to driving the CDC Foundation’s technology posture into the future.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Enterprise Technology Strategy and Alignment 

  • Develop and execute a multi-year technology strategy aligned with organizational goals and mission priorities.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on technology trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure enterprise systems (CRM, HRIS, ERP,grantsmanagement) are integrated and optimized.

IT Governance, Risk and Compliance

  • Establish andmaintainIT governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Ensure cybersecurity posture aligns with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Finance to embed strong internal controls within systems and workflows.

Infrastructure and Operations

  • Own and direct IT infrastructure including cloud platforms, networks, and end-user systems.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of all technology services.
  • Drive continuous improvement of IT service delivery and support models.

Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence

  • Lead enterprise data strategy ensuring integrity, accessibility, and governance.
  • Advance analytics capabilities to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Identifyand implement AI solutions to enhance operational efficiency and outcomes.

Vendor and Financial Accountability

  • Own vendor strategy and direct vendor relationships, contracts, and performance expectations.
  • Own and approve the IT budget aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Optimizetechnology investments to maximize ROI.
  • Own and make final decisions on vendor solution selection and making executive decisions based on operational needs 

Team Leadership and Development

  • Design, build, and lead a high-performing technology organization.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Develop talent pipelines and succession planning strategies.

Change Management and Adoption

  • Lead organizational change efforts related to technology initiatives.
  • Drive user adoption through training, communication, and engagement.
  • Ensure seamless implementation of new systems and tools.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field;Master’spreferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise systems, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and data management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Experience managing budgets and vendor ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • CISSP, CISM, or equivalent cybersecurity certification preferred.
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) preferred
