What You'll Be Doing

This position performs leadership, supervisory, administrative and highly skilled automotive mechanical repair and maintenance work in the Town’s Fleet Division of the Department of Public Works and Capital Projects. The position oversees a mixed fleet of vehicles, heavy and small equipment, and the technicians who perform routine maintenance, repairs, specialty welding, vehicle upfitting, wiring and other skilled tasks. Work includes planning, organizing, and supervising the work of the division, preparing and managing the annual budget and capital asset replacement program; and ensuring timely procurement of vehicles, equipment, parts, and supplies. Work also involves overseeing accurate asset and service records using a computerized fleet management system and evaluating the work of the division staff in the repair and maintenance of town vehicles and equipment.

Position Duties

  • High school diploma/GED. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance with a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  • CPR, AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Technology, Business or a related field.
  • Virginia State Police Vehicle Safety Inspectors License.
  • Master ASE certification in Automotive and/or Medium/Heavy Truck.
  • NAFA Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) certification.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
