About the Department

Acceptable Experience and Education

High school diploma or GED; also preferred two (2years’ experience in cashiering, or similar office experience; depending on area assigned: experience in general merchandising (preferred golf related). 


Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Certificates, Licenses, and Other Requirements

Must have or obtain by date of hire, Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.


In order to access into the County’s network and systems, a personal smart device is required by the hire start date.

Position Duties

Essential Duties

Maintains sales standards, and maintains solid product knowledge;


Processes customer returns and exchanges in a prompt and efficient manner;


As directed, assists in processing and replenishing merchandise on the sales floor by participating in receiving, tagging, and monitoring sales floor stock;


Adheres to County approved loss prevention programs to minimize inventory shrinkage and to support and grow the sales/profitability of the store; for example, checks bags and boxes of items for purchase by customer to ensure accuracy and quantities of items sold;


Meets with staff/volunteers to identify and resolve problems;


Compiles statistical information, reports and data;


Assists the public with inquiries and handles difficult customers and non-routine problems;


May assist in the development and improvement of department procedures;


Substitutes, if assigned, for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;


Attends and participates in meetings, training and information sessions;


Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field;


Serves as the initial point of phone or personal contact for participants, outside agencies, other county departments and the general public concerning inquiries or complaints about a specific program and/or its services;


Administers the sale of admission tickets and collects passes from patrons; receives payment by cash, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits;


Is responsible for the money that is being handled; completes daily cash count sheets; ensures money received and tickets sold coincide; makes final deposit in safe;


Greets customers entering the establishment;


Responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public; relay information on procedures or policies; maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules;


Handles customer service in a professional and effective manner; deals with unruly individuals and refuses admittance to persons without the appropriate tickets or passes;


Maintainwork area clean and orderly; sweeps, cleans, picks up trash;


Maintains restrooms in a clean and sanitary manner;


Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;


Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and


Creates a high-quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.



Contingent upon location of work, may perform the following duties

Performs data entry, carries out mail runs, assists with inventory, and opens or closes the establishment;


Assists with the rental of shelters;


Registers baseball teams and players; collects registration fees, maintains background files and rosters, schedules lineups; and


Creates/updates signs alerting patrons of policies and procedures.



Other Important Duties*

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.


May work weekends and holidays.


As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications

Summary of Position

The Cashier/Attendant, Intermediate under general supervision is responsible for the overall day-to-day cashiering duties for entry to county facilities which include accepting payments, preparing receipts, issuing documents, reconciling drawer, answering customers’ questions, and providing information on procedures or policies

Reports to: Assigned Supervisor 

Directs:   This is a non-supervisory position. 

Other:        Has frequent contact with public and other county employees.


Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: the principles and practices of modern office administration; English usage, office methods, adding machines; computer; procedures and equipment including filing systems; principles and processes for providing effective customer and personal services; cashiering procedures; arithmetic and algebra and their applications; filing systems and methodology; Windows and Microsoft based products. Ability to: Learn the organization, procedures and operating details of the County department to which assigned; be tactful and diplomatic in handling informational matters and dealing with the public; operate personal computer and various software applications; perform word processing and data entry; understand and carry out both oral and written directions; perform simple mathematical calculations; prepare clear and concise reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; operate a variety of office equipment including cash registers, computers, calculator, and phones; Pass a Criminal Background Investigation;
