    POSITION 26P69 TITLE:  Teacher of Alternative Education

    LOCATION: Gateway Achievement Center

    EMPLOYMENT TERM:    2026-2027 school year with anticipated start date of August 13, 2026. (Normal contract:  200 days).

    BID PERIOD: April 29 to May 6, 2026, 4 pm.  If necessary, interviews will be arranged after bid period closes.

    QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimal qualifications will include a BA degree and valid West Virginia Teaching Certification endorsed in a 5-12 content area.  Applicant must apply for, obtain, and maintain an alternative education certification.  Applicant must possess the ability to successfully manage an instructional program for middle and high school students.   Experience with alternative education and/or students with disabilities preferred.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.            Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning

    2.            Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time

    3.            Instruct pupils in subject areas as specified in state law, curricula, and guidelines established by the local board of education and administrative regulations

    4.            Provide individual and small group instruction whenever appropriate

    5.            Adapt curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities

    6.            Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment

    7.            Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required

    8.            Evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding; monitor progress toward learning outcomes; prepare progress reports

    9.            Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; promote positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships

    10.         Maintain basic attendance accounting and business services, as required

    11.         Serve as resource person on interdepartmental level

    12.         Adhere to all federal, state, and local educational policies

    13.         Report to work one-half hour prior to start of school and remain at least ten minutes after close of school

    14.         Perform all other duties as assigned, according to need, by the school principal.
