The Network Engineer is responsible for the management of a computer network withing an organization to ensure that they are working properly. In some cases, they will also maintain networks for third party clients to include the installation/maintenance of firewalls and IDP/IPS and other networking devices. You must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with an After-Action Report (AAR) what action must be taken to address the issue. Follow up with the Project Manager (PM), Lead Engineer and teammates is critical to the success of the mission.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

• Experience with firewalls and IDP/IPS devices

• Detailed understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP fundamentals, and networking (LAN/WAN)    

  design principles.

• Detailed understanding of Layer 2 protocols

• Working knowledge of the following systems: Unix/Linux, Cisco IOS and Windows Server.

• Working knowledge of routers and switches

• Supports operational functions of managing and establishing new network connections to client   

  network.

 

Skill Requirements:

 

• Network Engineering experience to include routers from small network devices to enterprise level,    

  firewall, load balancers and other network attached devices

• Hands on experience with CISCO or Palo Alto

• Manages the testing and analysis of all network components including complex software,    

  hardware, and transmission systems.

• Detailed understanding of IP protocols; these skills must include TCP/IP based services (i.e. DNS,  

  DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc); IP addressing/subnetting and routing principles (i.e. RP. OSPF, 

  IS-IS, BGP, etc); IPv6/IPSec protocols (SSL, TLS, SSH); network (LAN/WAN) design principles

• Participating in interactions with internal and external clients to define requirements, discuss project   

  progress, and resolve issues as they arise.

• Providing second-level technical and non-technical support as needed, including client/vendor 

  relations and technical problem solving and providing training to clients and staff for new systems.

 

 

Education:

 

• BS/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Networking Certification, COMPTIA Security+ CE
