Position: Test Engineering Manager- High-speed Cable Products

Location: Nashua, NH

Overview:

The Test Engineering Manager-High Speed Cable Products will lead and scale our Signal Integrity (SI) and Optical Test Labs supporting high speed electrical and optical interconnect products.  This role owns test strategy, execution, lab operations, and people leadership across electrical and optical validation for 112G / 224G PAM4 Ethernet and PCIe Gen6/Gen7 applications. This position requires the ability to personally engage in complex measurements, interpret data, and mentor engineers through challenging SI, PI, and system-level tests.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership in High-Speed Testing

  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex electrical, optical, and system-level test issues.
  • Define test architecture and measurement methodology for:
    • 112G / 224G cables
    • PCIe Gen6 / Gen7 cables
    • AEC, AOC, ACC, optical transceiver, and passive copper products
  • Provide technical judgment on what to measure, how to measure it, and how to interpret results.

SI & Electrical Test Oversight (Hands-On)

  • Personally guide and review testing using:
    • VNA (S-parameters, de-embedding, fixture characterization)
    • TDR/TDT (impedance, discontinuities, reflections)
    • BERTs and high-speed oscilloscopes (eyes, jitter, stress patterns)
  • Establish best practices for calibration, de-embedding, correlation, and uncertainty analysis.
  • Ensure compliance and margining against IEEE, PCI-SIG, and customer requirements.

Optical & System-Level Test Leadership

  • Provide technical direction for optical validation
  • Oversee system-level testing across temperature, voltage, and stress conditions using thermal ovens and environmental chambers.
  • Drive cross-domain debug spanning SI, optics, power, firmware, and mechanical effects.

Test Strategy, Process & Quality

  • Own test plans, coverage, and execution from engineering validation through customer qualification.
  • Drive automation and data integrity, enabling scalable, repeatable testing.
  • Review and approve technical test reports and customer-facing data.

People & Lab Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and technically develop test engineers and lab technicians.
  • Set expectations for data quality and engineering judgment.
  • Manage lab infrastructure, equipment roadmaps, and capital planning.

Cross-Functional & Customer Engagement

  • Partner with design, SI/PI, optics, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to influence product architecture.
  • Represent test engineering in design reviews, failure analysis, and customer debug sessions.
  • Clearly communicate technical risk, margin, and trade-offs to engineering leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 10+ years in high-speed interconnect, SI, optics, or system test engineering

Proven hands-on expertise with:

  • VNA, TDR/TDT, BERTs, high-speed oscilloscopes
  • Optical test equipment and system-level setups

Deep understanding of:

  • 112G / 224G PAM4 signaling
  • Ethernet and PCIe Gen5/6/7 architectures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Active Electrical Cables (AEC) and Active Optical Cables (AOC)
  • Familiarity with CMIS, link training, FEC behavior, and margining
  • Experience supporting hyperscaler or Tier-1 customer qualification
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW)
