Job Description

In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.

 

To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:

 

Medical Superintendent

 

The Medical Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, administration, and delivery of medical and occupational health services at the mining operation. The role ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, provides emergency medical response, and promotes workforce health, wellness, and injury prevention in a high-risk mining environment.



Key Responsibilities 


Key Area:            

 1. Clinical & Emergency Medical Services

  • Provide leadership and oversight of all medical services at the mine site clinic.
  • Deliver primary healthcare services to employees and contractors.
  • Manage medical emergencies, trauma cases, and coordinate evacuations when required.
  • Establish and maintain emergency response protocols in collaboration with HSE and mine rescue teams.
  • Ensure adequate medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceutical inventory at all times.

2. Occupational Health Management

  • Develop and implement occupational health programs aligned with mining regulations.
  • Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and exit medical examinations.
  • Monitor and manage occupational diseases (e.g., silicosis, noise-induced hearing loss, heat stress, chemical exposure).
  • Oversee workplace health risk assessments in collaboration with the HSE department.
  • Maintain health surveillance records and ensure confidentiality.

3. Compliance & Regulatory Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with national health regulations, mining laws, and occupational health standards.
  • Liaise with government health authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and submit statutory medical and health reports as required.
  • Ensure clinic operations meet required licensing and accreditation standards.

4. Health Promotion & Preventative Programs

  • Develop wellness initiatives (e.g., malaria prevention, HIV awareness, vaccination campaigns).
  • Implement mental health and fatigue management programs.
  • Provide health education sessions for employees.

5. Administration & Leadership

  • Supervise medical staff including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support personnel.
  • Manage clinic budget, procurement, and operational planning.
  • Develop and implement medical SOPs and policies.
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to site risk management planning.

6. Incident Management & Reporting

  • Investigate medical-related incidents and provide recommendations.
  • Support fitness-for-work evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and injury statistics.
  • Contribute to lost-time injury analysis and workplace injury reduction strategies.

 

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

  • Medical Doctor (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Registered and licensed to practice medicine in the country of operation. Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health, Public Health, or Emergency Medicine (preferred).
  • Minimum 5–8 years of clinical experience, with at least 3 years in occupational health or industrial/mining environment.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational health regulations and mining-related hazards.
  • Emergency response and trauma management expertise.
  • Strong decision-making under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.



Working Conditions

  • Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
