Job Description

Position Description

Draws blood from patients in correctional hospital facility for analysis or other medical purposes.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Performs phlebotomy as required using aseptic techniques. 
  • Maintains specimen collection containers by monitoring expiration dates. 
  • Reports abnormal findings or processing errors to the charge nurse. 
  • Check and insures that laboratory equipment is properly functioning and maintains a temperature log.
  • Properly uses Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to ensure continuity of care.
  • Is active in Quality Assurance monitoring for laboratory equipment. 
  • Orders and maintains laboratory supplies. 
  • Properly utilizes the collection and preparation of specimens.
  • Effectively participates in the overall goals of the Managed Care team.
  • Responds to all request in a timely manner as required.
  • Support the goal of the unit by attending meetings

Since 1989, TTUHSC Managed Care has served as a healthcare delivery service, providing high quality, low cost healthcare to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.
