    Job Description: 1:1 Paraprofessional
     
    Purpose:
    Assists and participates in teaching and providing support for specific elementary student(s); carries out lesson plans and other curriculum provided by the classroom Teacher; participates in professional development, as needed.


    Qualifications

    • Associate's degree in Education or a related field with
    • Experience with children
    • Can independently lift up to 10 lbs., if necessary
      • Prompt, reliable, dependable, honest, ability to accept constructive feedback from supervisors
      • Good oral and written communication skills
      • Prior PMT training is preferred

    Responsibilities
    Classroom:

    • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing age / developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
    • Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining an orderly, clean, welcoming classroom for students.
    • Interact positively with students at all times.
    • Maintain visual supervision of children at all times.
    • Observe individual students daily, maintain up-to-date information on assigned students, and provide input to the classroom teacher for conferences.
    • Maintain appropriate documentation for each child, as directed by the classroom teacher.

    Professional Development / miscellaneous

    • Be familiar with state licensing regulations regarding staff/student ratios, hand washing, communicable disease information, etc.
    • Report any unsafe or uncomfortable working conditions to the School Principal immediately.
      • Sensitivity to individual children and their families regarding ethnicity, differences in cultures, religious affiliations, family structure, etc.
    • Working cooperatively with the teacher and serving as a positive role model for students.

    Requirements upon Hire

    • Provide proof of Physical Examination with a statement of good health from a Primary Care physician, advanced practice nurse, or physician's assistant; this may be dated within the last 12 months before hire; and then every two years after.
    • Proof of a negative TB test upon hire.
    • Three letters of reference from adults not related to the employee.
    • Completed application for employment.
    • Fingerprint cards and DCF release of information forms.
    • Sign up on the CT Charts-a-course registry.
    • Resume, if applicable.
    • Official Post-Secondary Transcripts or Parapro test results indicating a passing score.
