Job Description

Musicians are part of a larger ensemble ranging in size from two to seven members. Members of the ship’s Orchestra will perform in the production shows (where applicable), back up Guest Entertainers and play various dance and themed sets in various venues around the ship. Non-orchestra musicians will perform appropriate dance music with their group in various venues around the ship as scheduled by the Cruise Director and Bandmaster.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Entertain guests by performing appropriate material.
  • Must always enhance the company’s image via proper demeanor and personality.
  • Must always demonstrate a professional presence.
  • Performs up to 4 sets daily, (not including rehearsals) as scheduled by the Cruise Director and Bandmaster. Extenuating situations may require the Musician to play up to 6 sets.
  • Must be familiar with the safety and environmental protocols and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
  • Must attend mandatory crew and guest drills as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Shipboard experience is preferred but not mandatory. Live performance experience is mandatory.
  • Orchestra musicians must be excellent sight readers.
  • Must be prepared to perform outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must have a vast repertoire of standard and current material including various seasonal and ethnic selections.
  • Repertoire must be committed to memory as much as and whenever possible.
  • Must have an engaging, outgoing personality.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam approved by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
  • Must not have a criminal record.

EDUCATION

  • Live performance experience is mandatory.
  • A four-year college degree in the musical performance/theatrical field is highly preferable, though not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
NCL America:

  • The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) requires all crew members employed with NCL America aboard the Pride of America to hold a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC). In order to qualify for a MMC, applicants must demonstrate specific physical abilities necessary to perform shipboard duties per USCG guidelines (COMPDTPUB 16700.4 NVIC 04-8).
  • Shall have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40.0 or less. Blood Pressure as per USCG a maximum 160/100.
