POSITION TITLE:                      WATER HANDLER

                                                            DPW – WATER DIVISION

                                                            AFSCME LOCAL 1700 – GRADE 8

                                                            FULL-TIME (40 HOURS PER WEEK)

                                                            PAY RANGE: $52,352.04 TO $70,373.16 PER YEAR

 

Position
Overview:

  • Operate and repair chemical pumps and motors of all kinds
  • Always maintain chemical pumps and motors in a clean and fully operational condition
  • Always handle water treatment chemicals safely
  • Perform maintenance at all Water Treatment Plants and Pump Houses.
  • Keep all Water Treatment Plants, Pump Houses, and Water Towers clean, both inside and out.
  • Perform other duties within the Water Department as needed
  • Upgrade license certification as required if the Board of Water Registrars updates the Town’s certification requirements
  • Perform all tasks as assigned or required by the Water Superintendent



Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • Must obtain a Grade 1-OIT license within 90 days of hire.
  • Grade 1-T in full license must be obtained within 14 months of date that the requisite Grade 1-OIT license was awarded.
  • Thereafter, employees are encouraged to seek their Grade 2-T license.
  • This position requires certification from the Massachusetts Division of Registration for Drinking Water Facilities. If the Town's Water System is upgraded, must obtain a license as the system is rated



Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma, trade school education, or equivalent training and experience.



Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of water treatment operations, equipment, and safety procedures
  • Skill in operating, maintaining, and repairing pumps, motors, and related systems
  • Ability to handle chemicals safely, perform physical labor, and work as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instructions, maintain records, and meet licensing requirements
