Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaborates effectively with school staff and parents/guardians;
Possesses excellent computer skills (including, but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel and database programs)
Displays a knowledge of school policies, procedures, and programs;
Displays a knowledge of state laws, particularly knowledge of DCF, the juvenile court system (i.e., referral procedures, etc.)
Maintains confidentiality and privacy rights of students and parents;
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is responsible for inputting all emails, notes and voicemails related to student absenteeism each day into the student database program, adhering to a consistent format and procedure and ensuring that the information is entered accurately.Makes phone calls to parents/guardians whose children are absent, if contact has not been made by the parent or guardian on that specific day. If contact is not made by phone, sending an email or text or other form of communication is made.
Prepares weekly attendance updates for the Guidance Department prior to the school's Child Study Team meeting.
Prepares truancy letters as required in adherence to the school district's Attendance Policy
Helps families to understand the relationship between attendance and overall school success;
Collaborates with other Attendance staff in order to meet the goal of reducing the number of chronically absent or truant students, as defined by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Supports all school efforts to promote excellent attendance for all students.
Maintaining records; and
Filing paperwork and completing all requirements as defined by the school district.
High school diploma or equivalent
Three years of experience working with families and children
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and Spanish is preferred
HOURS AND FUNDING OF POSITION:The position requires the Attendance Clerk to work during the school day hours when attendance is reported to the school's main office. Funding for the Attendance Clerk is limited by grant funding. The position is a year to year position with no benefits, and the position can be terminated if the state grant funding is reduced or eliminated. Starting salary is $18.60
