Position Notice:
Swimming Instructors provide quality swim classes for patrons of all ages and abilities while maintaining a safe environment for all students; assists in supporting the rules, regulations, and safety of the pool facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Swimming Instructor
REPORTS TO: Lake Stevens High School Aquatics Manager/Assistant Aquatics Manager
SUMMARY: Provide quality swimming lessons for patrons of all ages and abilities while
maintaining a safe environment for all students; assists in supporting the
rules, regulations, and safety of the pool facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 Model organizational mission and vision; perform duties in an effective and efficient manner for the purpose
of supporting and contributing to the achievement of district goals.
 Teaches a variety of swimming lessons for all ages and abilities.
 Effectively evaluate each student’s progress.
 Maintain class rosters and complete report cards in a timely manner.
 Enforce and educate students about facility rules and reasons for them.
 Communicate with the supervisor on duty the need to move students to appropriate levels.
 Communicate with staff the need for further assistance or equipment.
 Submit all records and reports in a timely manner.
 Accurately answer questions related to pool programming in a pleasant manner. Redirect complaints and
concerns to the supervisor on duty.
 Maintain current certifications.
 Request assistance from Aquatics Manager, Assistant Manager, or Senior Guard to maintain discipline of
swimmers if needed.
 Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times with regard to both uniform and personal hygiene.
 Attend required trainings.
 Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
 Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor
immediately.
 Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous and respectful.
 Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
 Consistently follow directions of the lead staff member.
 Work as a positive team member.
 Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents.
 Know and follow health, safety and emergency procedures of the district.
 Demonstrate professionalism through conduct, punctuality and minimal absences.
 Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. Previous experience teaching swimming preferred, but not required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
1. Valid Washington State Driver’s License
2. Lifeguarding Certification
3. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
4. Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred

 Ability and desire to work with students.
 Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, both orally and in writing, follow instructions, and use
problem-solving skills in order to work as an effective member of the team.

 Ability to provide positive behavioral support and management.
 Ability to remain calm and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
 Awareness and acceptance of diversity among staff and patrons.
 Ability to use sound judgment.
 Ability to practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including confidentiality.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret in English. Ability to follow instructions in English in written and oral
form. Ability to write effectively in English.

Work Hours/Days: Flexible/180 days
Salary: Auxiliary, Student and Casual Labor Worker Hourly Rate Schedule.
