ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Performs routine medical laboratory testing procedures using a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintains proper quality control procedures.
- Performs quality control checks of instrumentation against established standards.
- Performs preventative maintenance required on all laboratory instrumentation.
- Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, peers and the public.
- Operates the laboratory information system.
- Support staff on all shifts, must be flexible to work extended hours and take call as necessary.
- Maintain a safe, clean and appropriate work area.
- Maintain and replenish inventory of supplies.
- Obtain specimens by venipuncture at outpatient draw station and clinic affiliates.
- Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA.
- Work as a team member within the laboratory department and all other departments within the hospital and clinic affiliates.
- Document work processes as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform in all areas of the laboratory including, but not limited to, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, immunoassay, blood gases, blood banking, serology and urinalysis.
- Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labels, sorting specimens,
- logging specimens, receiving specimens, prioritizing specimens collection and analysis, submitting complete reports to providers, while keeping work spaces clean and orderly.
- Identifies and communicates abnormal laboratory values by alerting supervisory personnel, the patient's physician or nursing service.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to obtain blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary collection.
- Ability to operate a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
- Ability to perform required preventative maintenance on all instrumentation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, management, peers and the public.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people, in difficult situations .
- Excellent and professional communication skills.
Certification/Licensure:
- Registration with an accredited MT organization. (i.e. ASCP)
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory or Clinic Laboratory Science program
- Minimum of two years experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred
- Registration with an accredited MT organization
