Chief Operating Officer
Overview:
VIOTAS is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to join its executive leadership team. This is a senior executive appointment at a fast-scaling, technology-driven energy company operating across regulated electricity markets in Ireland, Australia, and Texas.
VIOTAS enables large commercial and industrial customers to participate actively in electricity markets — generating revenue for those customers while supporting grid stability and the integration of renewable energy. The business operates at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-time energy market participation across three highly regulated jurisdictions, and operational reliability is central to its commercial credibility and growth trajectory.
The COO will provide executive leadership for all operational functions, set the standards and governance that allow the business to scale internationally, and hold the operational integrity of the business across its markets. This is a role for an executive who is equally at home setting operational strategy and holding the line on operational discipline when commercial pressure tests it.
About VIOTAS:
VIOTAS is a market leader in smart grid technology and demand response services. Headquartered in Limerick with global offices in Melbourne, Krakow, and Texas (U.S.), VIOTAS enables commercial and industrial clients to actively participate in electricity markets, generating revenue while supporting renewable energy integration and grid stability.
Recognised internationally for innovation and growth, VIOTAS plays a critical role in building a sustainable energy future and was named Ireland’s fastest-growing technology company at the Deloitte Fast 50 Awards in 2019.
The Role:
- Own end-to-end operational performance across all markets — site availability, dispatch reliability, SLA delivery, asset health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Hold executive sign-off authority for operational readiness, ensuring that what the business commits to deliver can be operated safely and at scale before it goes live.
- Maintain executive-level comprehension of electricity systems, market mechanisms, and regulatory direction across all operating jurisdictions, and cultivate that comprehension across the in-market leadership teams.
- Lead the central operational functions — Network Operations Centre, Market Operations, and Field Operations — and the in-market operational leadership across VIOTAS’s operating markets.
- Act as the senior executive lead for major operational incidents, chair the cross-functional reliability governance forum, and own the incident response architecture.
- Build the capability, structure, and leadership depth of the operations function, and drive automation, analytical rigour, and continuous improvement across the operating model.
What We’re Looking For:
- A proven operational leader with experience running complex, multi-site or multi-market operations at executive level.
- Deep comprehension of energy market mechanism design — or the intellectual appetite and adjacent experience to develop it quickly — and the discipline to translate regulatory and policy direction into operational and commercial positioning.
- Strong systems-thinking orientation: a bias toward making problems visible through metrics and governance rather than absorbing them personally.
- Decision-rights and governance design capability, with the confidence to define and hold accountability structures across a matrix organisation.
- Calm, clear executive leadership under pressure, with the ability to move between Board-level conversation and operational detail within the same day.
- A constructive but firm relationship with commercial urgency — treating operational discipline as a driver of commercial credibility, not a constraint on it.
- The instinct to build through systems and standards rather than heroics, and to develop leaders who operate the same way.
- Curiosity about AI as a capability lever for operational systems and decision-making.
