Job Description

District Academic Coach- Exceptional Student Services 


 


JOB DESCRIPTION: 


To work closely with the schools and directly with classroom teachers by modeling effective teaching strategies, guiding instructional delivery to support research-based strategies into classroom practice, and raising student achievement as measured by District and State Assessments and progress on IEP goals.


 


QUALIFICATIONS: 


Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate in special education. Prior experience in special education PK-8 instruction with a proven track record of instructing and meeting the needs of all learners in all content areas. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientifically research-based instruction along with intervention programs to assist staff with effective use of these programs. Possess effective communication, organization, and presentation skills. Competent and confident use of district technology. 


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide support to the education process by understanding the purpose and specifics of academic programs and supplemental and intervention programs to serve as a guide to the site staff to effectively use these programs.

  • Work with the school sites to ensure academic/curricular strategies are operating effectively and productively to support services provided to students and teachers.

  • Collaborate with school sites to strengthen teachers’ development and use of instructional strategies by providing site coaches with support through modeling direct, explicit, systematic instruction, team teaching, and/or observing.

  • Observe and monitor instruction and provide site leadership teams with feedback.

  • Support inclusive educational practices by adapting curriculum, instruction, and materials to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring equitable and responsive instruction aligned to PK–8 content standards.

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the IEP process, including evaluation, development, and implementation, and use data to analyze student performance and inform instructional decision-making.

  • Demonstrate expertise in supporting students with complex academic and behavioral needs, including coaching staff to implement effective, evidence-based instructional and behavior strategies across settings.

  • Assist in monitoring student progress by understanding and interpreting assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform and support instructional decisions, based on analysis of various types of data.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a log documenting the support services provided to site academic coaches.

  • Participate as an essential contributing member of the Educational Services Leadership Team.

  • Support student learning through the use of available district curriculum and resources. 

  • Attend meetings and training related to the position.

  • Support the District and site-level professional development plan through facilitation, participation, and implementation of staff development, and apply knowledge of adult learning theory.

  • Work directly with the principal to support the site in meeting academic goals and serve as a liaison between ESS leadership, and teaching teams.

  • Continue to grow professionally through appropriate staff development opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an in-person position.


SALARY: Nine-month year, teachers’ salary schedule, 20 additional days (at daily rate), $750 travel stipend, $5,000 master educator stipend, and employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.


 


EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of professional personnel.
