    Position Overview

    Emerald High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Head Girls Basketball Coach to lead our varsity basketball program. This position is responsible for coaching student-athletes in game strategies, skill development, and team dynamics to prepare them for competitive success. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, disciplined, and sportsmanship-driven environment that encourages student-athletes to grow both on and off the court.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Evaluate players' skills and assign team roles to maximize individual and team performance.
    • Develop and implement structured practice plans focused on skill-building, teamwork, and strategic play.
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to coordinate practice schedules, facility use, and game logistics.
    • Provide individualized and group instruction on rules, techniques, and equipment use.
    • Develop game strategies tailored to the strengths and capabilities of the team.
    • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student-athlete performance, expectations, and team matters.
    • Ensure compliance with all state, regional, and district athletic policies and regulations.
    • Model exemplary sportsmanship and maintain professional conduct with players, officials, and spectators.
    • Oversee the proper care, maintenance, and inventory of uniforms, equipment, and facilities.
    • Organize and participate in team-related activities, including parent meetings, banquets, award ceremonies, and school spirit events.
    • Maintain accurate records, including eligibility forms, emergency data, insurance documents, and equipment inventory.
    • Attend coaching clinics, professional development workshops, and staff meetings to stay current on best practices.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with the program's goals and philosophy.
    • Oversee program direction, coordination, and evaluation in accordance with district policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    • Coaching Experience: Prior coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
    • Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, staff, parents, and the school community.
    • Technical Skills: Ability to analyze team performance, design game strategies, and effectively instruct players.
    • Professionalism: Commitment to fostering discipline, teamwork, and academic accountability among student-athletes.

    Additional Skills

    • Ability to interpret and apply athletic regulations, school policies, and sports program guidelines.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance coaching duties with administrative responsibilities.
    • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
