The Fleet Maintenance Technician repairs and maintains City vehicles and equipment to ensure all assets remain safe, reliable, and in proper working condition. This role performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of City vehicles and equipment while supporting the City’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and high-quality public service.
Essential Job Duties
- Perform routine preventative maintenance including inspecting equipment, changing fluids, checking tires, and verifying that all safety-related equipment is functioning properly.
- Diagnose and perform specialized repairs on vehicles and equipment, including engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension, electrical wiring, electric motors, snowplows, salt spreaders, and hydraulic systems.
- Utilize welding and fabrication skills to repair or create parts and equipment such as frames, floors, hitches, molding, racks, toolboxes, and other accessories.
- Maintain and track inventory of tools, parts, and supplies used for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Accurately document work performed, including vehicle mileage reports, descriptions of repairs, and cost estimates.
- Participate in winter storm operations on a 24-hour call basis as required; repair vehicles and equipment and assist with snow plowing and salt spreading to ensure safe road conditions.
