This role in summary

 

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Materials Lab Technician. This is an onsite role at our Research and Engineering Tech Center in Benton Harbor, MI.

 

Materials Lab Technician reporting to the NAR Materials Validation Lab Manager as part of Whirlpool’s Materials department. Primary function is to ensure materials selected for production or under development meet Whirlpool specifications with respect to performance and regulatory requirements. Close interactions with Materials Engineers and Subject Matter Experts regarding test procedures and requirements.

Your responsibilities will include

 

  • Assist development of new consumer relevant test procedures to ensure materials meet product leadership requirements.

  • Provide results with sufficient precision and careful documentation in a timely fashion to support development and launch.

  • Complete training and development plans to enhance skills and lab capabilities

  • Help process partners follow lab operation "rules" to ensure stable workflow

  • Follow lab safety standards and 5S guidelines, and help create a visual lab to facilitate

Minimum requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1+ years of experience in performing standard test methods such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

  • 1+ years of experience with calibration and maintenance of measurement equipment

Preferred skills and experiences

 

  • Associate’s Degree with preference in a Science, Engineering or Design

  • Understanding of Lean Engineering principles

  • Proficient with Google software - Sheets, Docs, Slides and FileMaker software, X-Rite color measurement, Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Basic understanding of appliance raw materials and processes. 

  • Project management experience

  • Self-directed work ethic with strong interpersonal skills and serious ability to multitask

  • Organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Written and oral communication skills
