Classification Title: Temporary Position
DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the School Administration, the Lunch and Recess Monitor assists and monitors students during the lunch and recess periods at the Elementary School. Lunch and Recess Monitors are hired on as needed basis and will be contacted by the school directly.
Lunch and Recess Monitors are expected to maintain a professional attitude toward their work and support the mission and goals of the school system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet all qualifications below to be considered for the position.
Education:
No minimum education required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Two Supervisory References. One of them must be from the current or most recent supervisor.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:
Maintains a safe environment
Avoids engaging in or encouraging discussions of inappropriate or non-school related topics
Becomes familiar with emergency procedures
Notifies school administration of any unusual incidents which have occurred during the school day
Reports suspected child abuse/neglect per Howard County Public School System policy
Other duties as assigned.
Working Hours
The working hours will be determined by the work location and the school administrators.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be included in the pool. Lunch and Recess Monitors are hired by recommendation only.
Applicants with complete applications will be added to the Lunch Recess Monitor Pool for schools to review the applications.
School administrators in need of Lunch Recess Monitors will contact applicants directly to schedule an interview.
If selected by the school, the Office of Temporary Services will contact the applicant and will process the application.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact schools directly to notify them of their interest.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Compensation
This is a temporary position. Rates of pay may be reviewed on our website.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Professional references will be contacted prior to any offer of employment. Recommended candidates will be required to provide references from current and recent supervisors.
All employees, regular and temporary, must be fingerprinted, have a criminal background investigation completed, and successfully complete the Maryland Employment History Review, pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland. In addition, some positions will require completion of a physical examination and/or drug testing.
