- Sanitize high-touch surfaces, such as chalkboards, whiteboards, computer monitors, keyboards, door handles, and light switches.
- Empty and clean waste containers, ensuring proper trash removal.
- Perform restroom cleaning, including mirrors, fixtures, floors, dispensers, and graffiti removal.
- Maintain hallways and entryways, ensuring clear walkways, trash removal, and spill cleanup.
- Clean entry doors, windows, mats, overhangs, and light fixtures.
- Pick up and dispose of debris from parking lots and outdoor areas.
- Secure doors, windows, gates, and parking lots.
- Conduct a walkthrough before departure, turning off lights and setting alarms as needed.
- May perform building and site safety checks, including inspecting for hazards, graffiti and vandalism.
- This duty may be performed independently without other staff or custodians present.
- Assist teachers, staff, and students with the proper disposal of hazardous waste materials and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Identify, remove, and report unauthorized or unsafe chemicals, including unapproved substances, vape devices, and prescription drugs found in school areas.
- Report any suspicious or dangerous objects, substances, or situations to supervisors.
- Report issues, maintenance requests, and supply needs to the Lead or Night Team Lead Custodian.
- Perform minor building maintenance for items such as light fixtures, pencil sharpeners, tile coverings, soap dispensers, paper towel machines, and custodial equipment.
- In winter, clear snow and ice from walkways and parking lots, applying salt or other ice-melting products as needed.
- Set-up and take down of equipment for building activities and outside usage.
- Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed/requested.
- High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school
- Criminal background check required for hire
- Valid Colorado driver's license
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds - Lift test required at time of hire
- Training on handling bodily fluids and spills required within 30 days of hire
- Operating knowledge of equipment used in custodial equipment including gym floor applicator, floor buffer, water vacuum, extractor, and auto scrubbers
- Ability to interpret and implement OSHA's Safety & Data Sheet protocols and regulations
- Thorough understanding of custodial methods, processes, procedures, chemicals, and equipment
- Familiarity with building operations, district scheduling systems and security procedures
- Knowledge of Body Fluid Spills training required within 30 days of hire
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities

Summary
Working under the general direction of the Custodial Supervisor or designee and assigned Building Administration, this position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment within the assigned building. Duties include daily cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and entryways, as well as minor building maintenance and supply management. This role may require working alone in the building during night shifts, performing security checks, cleaning and maintenance. This position plays a key role in ensuring the facility remains well-maintained, presentable, and functional for students, staff, and visitors.
