    Seeking Substitute Nutrition Staff for the School City of Hobart. Positions are filled on an as-needed basis.

     

    Position Summary

    To support the preparation, service, and cleanup of student meals by serving as an on-call substitute in school kitchens and cafeterias as needed, while maintaining food safety, sanitation, and positive service to students and staff.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with food preparation, portioning, setup, and service of breakfast, lunch, snacks, and other assigned menu items.
    • Serve students and staff in a courteous and professional manner while helping maintain an orderly cafeteria or serving line environment.
    • Follow food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and safe food handling procedures at all times.
    • Set up, stock, replenish, and break down serving lines, stations, carts, and related equipment.
    • Operate assigned kitchen and cafeteria equipment safely and as trained.
    • Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, pans, equipment, tables, and work areas in accordance with department procedures.
    • Complete assigned records and logs accurately and work at assigned school locations based on department needs.

     

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Ability to read and follow recipes, menus, labels, schedules, safety procedures, and written instructions.
    • Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with supervisors, staff, students, and visitors.
    • Ability to follow established procedures, work cooperatively with others, and move throughout kitchen, storage, serving, and cafeteria areas.

    Preferred:

    • Prior experience in food service, school nutrition, cafeteria service, or a related setting.
    • ServSafe Certification.

     

    Terms of Employment

    Salary and benefits as defined in the School City of Hobart Department of School Nutrition Staff Handbook. 

    FLSA Status

    Non-Exempt

    Pay Rate

    • $12.50/hour

    Benefits 

    • This substitute position is not eligible for retirement or health insurance benefits.

     

    Physical Demands

    This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, and use of hands and fingers to prepare and serve food, wash dishes, clean work areas, and operate kitchen or cafeteria equipment. The employee must be able to work in varying kitchen and storage temperatures, move safely throughout kitchens, serving lines, storage rooms, dish areas, and cafeterias, and lift/carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

     

    Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily in school kitchens, serving lines, dish rooms, storage areas, and cafeterias. Work involves exposure to kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals, wet floors, noise, heat, cooler/freezer temperatures, and fast-paced meal service periods. The position requires regular interaction with students and staff in busy school environments and constant awareness of food safety, sanitation, and general workplace hazards.
