Role Overview
The Training Lead, HVAC BIM will be responsible for elevating the technical capability of VIATechnik’s HVAC BIM detailers through structured training, coaching, and standards enforcement. This role will lead the development and delivery of classroom and hands-on training focused on the proper 3D modeling of process piping systems using Revit and applicable fabrication standards.
Based in Metro Manila, this position will primarily support the Philippines delivery team while partnering closely with global technical leadership and Learning & Development to build scalable training materials, measurable performance benchmarks, and consistent modeling practices aligned with VIATechnik’s global standards.
Success in this role will be demonstrated through reduced onboarding time, improved QA pass rates, and increased modeling consistency and constructability.
This individual will serve as both a technical authority and an educator, bridging standards knowledge with execution discipline.
Employee Value Proposition (EVP)
This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical capability of a high-performing BIM delivery center and directly influence quality, efficiency, and scalability of process piping modeling. For a top performer, this is a platform to establish technical excellence, mentor future leaders, and grow into a regional or global technical leadership role.
Major Performance Objectives (Year One)
1. Design and Launch a Standardized HVAC BIM Training Program
Within the first 6 months, design and implement a structured training curriculum covering:
- AFD interpretation and sequential take-off
- Constructible duct routing
- Duct supports and fabrication standards
- Pre-emptive clash avoidance
- ASHRAE, SMACNA and IMC considerations
- Revit-based HVAC modeling
- Sequencing logic
- QA self-check procedures
The program must include classroom modules, hands-on exercises, documentation standards, and measurable competency benchmarks. By year-end, demonstrate consistent instructional delivery and documented skill progression across the Manila team in alignment with global standards.
2. Reduce Onboarding Time for New HVAC BIM Detailers
Analyze current onboarding workflows and implement targeted training that reduces ramp-up time while maintaining or improving model quality.
Success will be measured by faster independent production capability and positive supervisor evaluations within the first 90 days.
3. Improve QA Pass Rates and Reduce Modeling Rework
Develop and deploy a structured QA self-check framework that enables detailers to proactively identify errors in routing, supports, fabrication detailing, and material matrix accuracy.
By year-end, demonstrate measurable improvement in QA outcomes and reduced rework.
Critical Subtasks
- Develop Revit-Based Process Piping Technical Standards Documentation: Create clear, repeatable modeling standards and visual guides aligned with applicable codes and fabrication requirements.
- Lead Classroom and Hands-On Training Sessions: Deliver instructor-led and workshop-based training for BIM detailers at varying skill levels.
- Teach Sequencing Logic and Work Breakdown Discipline: Train detailers to properly plan modeling work, identify critical checkpoints, and understand constructability dependencies.
- Implement Self-QA Training Protocols: Establish checklist-driven self-review workflows for pipe routing, supports, and material accuracy.
- Build and Maintain a Material Matrix Development Framework: Train team members on accurate material matrix creation aligned with client construction specifications.
- Partner with L&D to Create Scalable Training Assets: Develop repeatable learning modules, recorded content, and structured learning pathways.
- Integrate AI to Improve BIM Training and Modeling Performance: Evaluate and pilot AI-enabled tools to enhance training delivery, QA validation, sequencing accuracy, or modeling efficiency.
Culture & Situation Fit
The successful candidate thrives in a standards-driven, quality-focused environment and is passionate about teaching, coaching, and long-term capability building. This role requires strong collaboration with global stakeholders, attention to detail, and a commitment to developing others.
Win-Win Hiring Statement
This role is a career move for a process piping BIM expert who wants to multiply their impact. Instead of focusing on individual project output, this position builds the system that elevates performance across the organization—driving measurable quality improvement and long-term technical excellence from the Manila delivery center.
