About the Department
This is a multi-skilled maintenance position with a focus on advanced electrical skills within the Facility Maintenance department at the Solid Waste Authority. This position performs advanced trade tasks relating to the trouble shooting, repair and maintenance of buildings, structures, and equipment; including but not limited to HVAC systems, low voltage electrical systems, control systems, plumbing, carpentry, concrete interior and exterior finishes, roofing and minor structural repairs.
Position Duties
- Electrical repairs, maintenance and installation of skilled multi trades construction work
- Performs advanced electrician tasks relating to electrical repairs and troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480 volts
- Performs repairs of buildings, structures and equipment including HVAC systems, control systems, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, interior finishes, roofing and minor structural repairs
- Performs all electrical work in accordance with the latest addition of the National Electric Code, local and state regulations
- Operates and maintains a variety of maintenance associated power tools
- Assists other maintenance staff with necessary maintenance and repairs at various sites
- Performs preventative maintenance and repairs to associated equipment
- Performs limited repairs of buildings and associated equipment, fixtures and infrastructure at SWA facilities
- Some evening and weekend work may be required
- Other duties may be assigned

- Strong working knowledge in electrical and general construction trades with the ability to learn additional trade skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English to understand and interpret instructional materials such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to respond to inquiries and write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, vendors and the public
- Solid knowledge of general building maintenance with the ability to learn all other through in-house training
- Ability to calculate figures, measure and apply concepts of basic algebra
- Ability to deal with problems in a logical manner not to impede the Authority’s operation or sacrifice safety issues
- Ability to maintain a safe, healthy and clean work area
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses the education and experience listed below
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Four (4) years work experience in general construction with a focus on working in electrical field
- Any combination of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Valid State of Florida driver’s license
- Journeyman’s license preferred
