Position Summary 

The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the Head Athletic Trainer to provide healthcare services to over 250 varsity student athletes at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, an NCAA Division III institution. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for administering high-quality healthcare services to student-athletes as assigned and in accordance with NCAA Division III philosophy, as well as assisting with internal operations and supervision of student workers. This position works closely with team physicians, surgeons, the university’s compliance officer, Skyline Conference representatives, coaching staff, and campus partners to support student-athlete well-being academic success, and competitive participation.

Start Date - July 1, 2026

Responsibilities:

  • Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Services 
    • Provide comprehensive athletic training services, including injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and emergency care for student athletes. 
    • Provide medical coverage for varsity sports as assigned, including home and off-campus home contests, post-season play, and practices. Occasional away coverage may be necessary. 
    • Communicate with team physician(s) and team surgeons to coordinate student-athlete medical care. 
    • Maintain student-athlete medical records using CSMi SportsWare, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with institutional, NCAA Division III, and HIPAA standards. 
    • Uphold the NCAA Division III principle of medical autonomy, ensuring that health care decisions are made independently of coaching influence and in the best interests of the student-athlete. 
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with weather monitoring and communication with coaches and sports medicine staff regarding practice and game modifications in unsafe weather conditions. 
  • Supervision & Leadership 
    • Supervise student workers and athletic training students including assisting with scheduling and training. 
    • Supervise Healthcare Administration Intern(s) including assisting with scheduling and training. 
    • If eligible, serve as a clinical preceptor for affiliated MSAT programs. 
  • Internal Operations 
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with the daily operations of the sports medicine clinic including maintaining a clean and organized space. 
    • Maintain an accurate inventory and assist with submitting bids to vendors for supply purchasing in accordance with university purchasing policies and budgetary guidelines. 
    • Assist with practice and game scheduling and maintain high quality communication between coaches and sports medicine staff. 
    • Communicate with host athletic trainers regarding taping needs, medical alerts, and relevant coverage information. 
    • Submit accident claim forms to contracted secondary insurance provider and assist student athletes with submitting subsequent bills and Explanation of Benefits as needed.
