Position Summary

Responsible to the Medical Director for Trauma Services. Has responsibility for the care of Trauma patients in both the inpatient and outpatient clinic setting. As an active member of the hospital medical staff, provides direct clinical care to patients and assumes on-call responsibility for patients as assigned. Role models the organization's mission, goals, culture and vision in all interactions with hospital staff members and provision of clinical care. Works with the Medical Director and other members of the Trauma Services team in fully supporting the Trauma Program and the patients served at LRH.

Standard Work Duties: Trauma Surgeon

Actively participates in team development, achieving dashboards, and in accomplishing department goals and objectives. Provides quality clinical care to assigned patients admitted to the various Trauma/Critical Care/Surgical units. Provides care in keeping with the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of LRH and the Department of Trauma Services. Carries out job duties in a manner that enhances positive professional relationships with hospital staff, patients, families, and other physicians.
Provides first call and backup coverage for Trauma Services. Provides first call general surgery coverage and accepts in transfers, as appropriate, trauma patients admitted to one of the voluntary trauma surgeons.
Assists in the management of trauma patients while they are in the intensive care unit as well as assisting in the management of other patients in the intensive care unit.
Works within the multi-disciplinary team structure to facilitate positive patient outcomes. Also work within the current requirements of the State which will be maintained and/or enhanced allowing the hospital to be a Level II Trauma Center.
Provides high quality consultation-liaison services to the other clinical departments within LRH. Acts as a liaison with the trauma community including EMS personnel, AFTA personnel, state and local agencies, blood banks, other hospitals and other trauma centers.
Strives to develop clinical patient care opportunities apart from the inpatient setting that meet the care needs of the Lakeland area and are in keeping with the Mission of the hospital.
Submit accurate and timely billing within 48 hours of service date.
Assist the hospital with educational issues relating to the ER, the Intensive Care Units and other personnel involved in the care of the trauma patient as well as assisting the hospital in community education involving trauma and safety issues.
Responsible for special projects as assigned.
