POSITION: Before & Aftercare Staff

REPORTS TO: Before & Aftercare Coordinator

Before & Aftercare staff provide a safe, supervised, and nurturing environment for children after school hours. Responsibilities include supervising activities, assisting with homework, managing behavior and maintaining a clean and organized space.

Before & Aftercare staff provide a safe, supervised, and nurturing environment for children after school hours. Responsibilities include supervising activities, assisting with homework, managing behavior and maintaining a clean and organized space. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Supervision and Safety:

Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in the program through active supervision during activities,            snack/meal times, homework, and free play. 

Activity  Implementation:

Implementing engaging activities that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with program goals. 

Homework Assistance:

Providing support to students with their homework and assignments. 

Behavior Management:

Managing student behavior, redirecting as needed, and reporting serious issues to the supervisor. 

Communication:

Communicating effectively with colleagues and administrators regarding program updates, student progress, and incidents. 

Program Maintenance:

Keeping the aftercare space clean, organized, and safe. 

Enforcement of Policies and Procedures:

Following and enforcing program policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. 

Collaboration:

Working collaboratively with other staff members and school personnel to provide a positive and supportive environment. 

Desired Skills and Qualities:

  • Patience and Empathy: A compassionate and patient approach to working with children. 
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with children, parents, and staff. 
  • Ability to Work with Children: Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is often preferred. 

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma
  • Previous childcare experience preferred

Benefits

  • Salary: Hourly rate of $20.00 - $22.00 
  • Hours: Before Care - 6:45am - 8:30 am  and/or 
  • Aftercare 3:15pm  - 6:00pm (Monday - Friday)
  • In addition to your hourly pay, which is paid on a bi-weekly schedule, you are eligible for the following:
    DC Sick Leave: You will receive 1 hour of DC Sick time for every 37 hours worked.
  • This position is not eligible for Bridges benefits
