What You’ll Be Doing
Depending on assignment, you may:
- Intake, classify, and supervise inmates in a secure jail environment
- Maintain safety, order, and control inside housing units and control rooms
- Serve as a courtroom bailiff, protecting judges, juries, and the public
- Execute civil processes and court orders throughout the city
- Transport inmates securely (locally and long-distance)
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when seconds matter
- Work alongside sworn staff on special assignments and operations

Who We’re Looking For
This role is built for experienced, certified professionals who want to stay active in the field.
You must have:
- Current DCJS certification (Jailor, Court Security/Civil Process, and/or Law Enforcement)
- At least 21 years of age
- U.S. Citizenship (required by Virginia Code)
- High School Diploma or GED

Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Requires an acceptable background check and acceptable credit check.
- Meet all federal, state and local requirements to carry a firearm.
- Have never been dishonorably discharged from any of the armed forces of the United States.
- Requires a valid driverʼs license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to work a varying shift pattern and be on-call on a rotational basis for certain duties and teams.
- Have a High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Current Basic Jailor, Court Security/Civil Processing and/or Law Enforcement certification through DCJS required
