Description
Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team. Also responsible for preparing and assembling medical and surgical supplies, instrumentation and equipment, maintaining the sterile processing areas, and receiving and distributing surgical supplies and equipment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by
Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure
Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure
Performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator
Assisting with placement of sterile drapes
Providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure
Maintaining an organized sterile field.
Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed
Preparing sterile dressings
Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment.
Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.
Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas. Maintain other logs such as temperature and humidity logs and eyewash station logs.
Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician’s preference lists and anticipated needs of the perioperative team and maintain surgeon’s preference cards.
Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for surgery and sterile processing services in a cost-efficient manner.
Requirements
Required:
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician Program
- Active BLS Certification or able to obtain within 90 days
Preferred:
- 2 years of surgical technician experience in an operating room environment
- Physical and emotional stamina to thrive in an fast-paced demanding environment
Work Schedule: PRN: Monday - Friday; 8-hour shifts
