JOB DESCRIPTION � ELECTRICIAN
DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
JOB PURPOSE
Under occasional supervision, provides leadership in and performs skilled electrical maintenance and repair work in the maintenance of District schools and other facilities. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs a variety of skilled electrical maintenance and repair tasks in the maintenance of District facilities, systems and equipment.
Coordinates work with and provides assistance to outside electrical contractors as needed.
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and/or replaces conduit, wiring devices, computer cabling, circuit breakers, fuses, receptacles, interior and exterior lighting equipment, switch equipment, fire alarm equipment, control panels, kitchen appliances, small motors, etc.
Performs preventive maintenance functions as appropriate.
Anticipates and requests supplies, materials and equipment necessary for maintenance and repair tasks.
Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles, tools and equipment.
Maintains accurate and complete records of work completed and materials used.
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly shop area.
Performs all duties in compliance with District and department policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety.
Receives and responds to concerns, complaints and inquiries in areas of responsibility.
Operates a vehicle, man lift, and a variety of equipment such as ladders, electrician's tools, meters, cable and pipe locators, various hand and power tools, etc.; uses hardware, spare parts and other maintenance supplies.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, facility supervisors, District/school administrators and staff, vendors and service providers, contractors, and the general public.
Attends training, meetings, workshops, etc., as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
Replaces light bulbs and ballasts as needed.
Moves furniture and other heavy items as necessary.
Assists other building maintenance staff with tasks as necessary.
Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training supplemented by nine to twelve years of electrical maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must possess a minimum of a South Carolina Electrical Journeyman License.
