Location: Ohio and Pennsylvania (Travel Required)

Position Overview

CARIAN is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Utility Safety & Training Specialist to support electric distribution and transmission operations across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

This role serves as a field-facing safety leader and instructor supporting crews, contractors, and leadership teams during daily operations and storm restoration. The position combines operational knowledge, training delivery, hazard mitigation, regulatory coordination, and contractor oversight to strengthen safety culture and support safe execution across active utility environments.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Field Oversight

  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture through daily field engagement and leadership by example

  • Conduct pre-job site visits to identify hazards and remove barriers prior to work execution

  • Lead daily safety briefings and tailboards addressing risks, conditions, and lessons learned

  • Perform field safety observations and initiate corrective actions where needed

  • Ensure adherence to Safe Work Practices, operating manuals, and regulatory requirements

  • Identify Human Error and Critical Action (HECA) exposures and implement mitigation strategies

  • Track and review good catches, near misses, and safety observations with crews and leadership

Training, Instruction & Workforce Development

  • Deliver classroom, field, and hands-on training related to electrical safety and line operations

  • Instruct apprentices and advancing lineworkers in climbing techniques and energized work practices

  • Reinforce Accident Prevention Handbook standards and company safety procedures

  • Forecast training needs to maintain workforce readiness and compliance

  • Develop instructional tools, job aids, and process flow materials supporting operations and storm response

  • Support updates to safety curriculum aligned with operational priorities

Operations & Project Support

  • Support crew scheduling aligned with operational priorities and customer expectations

  • Organize and stage materials supporting field execution schedules

  • Develop and execute safe switching orders supporting planned work activities

  • Monitor contractor performance for safety, quality, schedule, and compliance

  • Lead pre-bid meetings to communicate safety expectations and execution requirements

  • Support contractor alignment with Manual of Operations standards

Storm Response & Emergency Operations

  • Serve in key storm roles including public protector, hazard responder, dispatcher support, and damage assessment coordination

  • Support multi-crew restoration efforts during local and mutual assistance events

  • Execute storm process workflows supporting safe and efficient service restoration

Regulatory, Reporting & Systems Support

  • Support inspection programs for distribution equipment including capacitors and reclosers

  • Create and manage inspection orders within SAP and GIS systems

  • Train leadership on regulatory reporting expectations

  • Track project budgets, accruals, and field activity reporting

  • Maintain safety and compliance tracking tools supporting operational oversight

Qualifications

  • 10+ years supporting electric utility distribution and/or transmission operations

  • Demonstrated experience providing field safety leadership in active utility environments

  • Prior experience delivering safety instruction to line crews, apprentices, or contractor teams

  • Strong working knowledge of utility Safe Work Practices, switching procedures, and hazard mitigation

  • Experience supporting storm restoration and emergency response operations

  • Familiarity with utility operational systems such as SAP, GIS Design, GIS View, or similar platforms

  • Ability to engage effectively with crews, contractors, and utility leadership in field settings
