POSITION:


Paraprofessional – Lunchroom / Recess / Classroom Support

Join our Alpine Elementary team supporting students during lunch, recess, and in the classroom. This is a high-energy, relationship-driven position where no two days are the same—and your impact is felt every single day.


 


LOCATION: Alpine Elementary


SCHEDULE: 4.75 hours per day (23.75 hours per week) - Monday – Friday


START DATE: Immediate


RATE OF PAY: Per Board Authorization - Instructional Rate


 


SUMMARY


Kenowa Hills Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional to support students during lunchroom and recess supervision, as well as provide classroom instructional support throughout the school day. This is a highly active and important role that requires strong supervision skills, consistency, and the ability to respond to student needs in real time. While the work can be fast-paced and physically demanding, it is also incredibly rewarding—offering the opportunity to positively impact students’ daily experiences in both structured and unstructured settings.


 


QUALIFICATIONS AND DUTIES



  • Must meet NCLB (ESSA) qualifications for paraprofessionals, including one of the following:


    • Associate’s degree or equivalent credit hours

    • Passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment


  • CPI and Ukeru training required as a condition of employment (will train)

  • Experience working with Pre-K–12 students preferred

  • Ability to supervise and support students in large group, unstructured environments, including lunchroom and recess

  • Ability to self-manage and monitor large areas while maintaining student safety and expectations

  • Ability to implement PBIS practices, behavior expectations, and de-escalation strategies

  • Ability to use age-appropriate tone and language with students

  • Establish and maintain consistent routines and expectations

  • Support classroom instruction, including small group or individual academic support

  • Ability to transition between supervision duties and instructional support throughout the day

  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with students and staff

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

  • Reliable and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position

This position requires a high level of physical activity and supervision across multiple environments. The employee must be able to:



  • Walk, stand, and move continuously throughout the day in both indoor and outdoor settings

  • Supervise large groups of students across expansive areas, including playground spaces

  • Move quickly and safely in response to student needs, including following, redirecting, or assisting students

  • Bend, squat, kneel, and sit as needed when working with students

  • Lift, assist, or move materials and/or students (up to 50 pounds) as needed


The work environment may include:



  • Outdoor supervision in varying Michigan weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, precipitation)

  • High-noise environments, including a busy lunchroom setting

  • Frequent transitions between structured (classroom) and unstructured (recess/lunch) environments


This role also requires:



  • Supporting students who may demonstrate behavioral or emotional dysregulation, including verbal outbursts, refusal, or unsafe behaviors

  • Implementing de-escalation strategies and approved safety interventions (CPI/Ukeru)

  • Maintaining a safe, structured, and well-supervised environment during lunch and recess

  • Supporting students in re-engaging with expectations and instruction following unstructured times

  • Providing academic support within the classroom setting, including small group and individual assistance


The ability to remain calm, attentive, and responsive while supervising large groups of students is essential.
