Join the dedicated team at Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital as a Psychiatric Social Worker and help improve the lives of patients facing mental health challenges. In this critical position, you’ll work as part of a compassionate, multidisciplinary team that’s committed to patient recovery and well-being.

What You’ll Do:
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans and ensure appropriate placement for patients upon discharge.
  • Conduct thorough social assessments during both admission and discharge to support each patient’s recovery journey.
  • Research and connect patients with social programs and community resources to help them achieve successful, independent living.
  • Collaborate with families to provide guidance on how they can support loved ones coping with the effects of mental illness.
  • Be a key part of a treatment team, contributing to the holistic care of each patient and ensuring smooth transitions throughout their care.
  • Additional duties as needed to support hospital operations and patient care.

Requirements:

This is a tobacco free facility. Chosen applicants must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug screening test. All employees shall be subject to drug testing for probable cause as set forth in Agency and Bureau policies. If needed, you must be able to work holidays and weekends. Mandatory overtime, as necessary, is an essential function of this position. Candidates must successfully pass a background screening.  


 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, Human Services, Special Education, Gerontology or related field from an accredited college or university.

Licensure/Certifications:

Applicants selected for this classification must obtain a Temporary Social Work License, Provisional Social Worker License, or hold licensure as a Certified Social Worker through the West Virginia Board of Social Work prior to beginning employment.

As a training site for future health care professionals, Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital provides on-site learning experiences for educating physicians, nurses, practical nurses, psychologists, counselors, health care administrators, technicians, and supportive services personnel. The hospital holds accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is certified by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Through ongoing collaboration with Marshall University’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, a variety of medical and clinical professionals partner with the hospital’s own staff to work diligently with patients to achieve a smooth transition back to the community after discharge.
