Job Summary: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

 

This position is responsible for supporting the Personal Philanthropy Programs department in accomplishing its goals and objectives by performing various tasks that help to facilitate and foster the development and management of planned gifts.  

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assist donors and their advisors (attorneys, financial advisors, brokers, etc.) to finalize gifts and transfer gift assets to DAV 
  • Personally respond to inquiries on a wide variety of topics and provide information and materials about planned gifts to new and repeat donors
  • Draft, edit, and format correspondence and proposals for the Managing Advisor and Personal Philanthropy Programs team including preparing gift annuity calculations, assembling packets, mail merges, labels, and personalizing letters
  • Help maintain planned giving files and database and ensure security of confidential donor information
  • Conduct extensive gift and donor analysis to help ensure the Gift Planning team achieves its goals and objectives
  • Manage special projects as necessary
  • Manage the process of developing and updating appropriate gift planning response materials by specified annual deadlines
  • Field donor calls, organize and maintain files, and schedule and coordinate meeting logistics
  • Assist in preparing legal documentation for gifts including charitable gift annuities, bequests, etc.
  • Calculate charitable deductions for all planned gifts and prepare acknowledgement package for all planned gifts; including tax information for DAV and the donor's tax filings
  • Understand the financial, legal and tax implications of planned gifts and drafts related proposals
  • Create, maintain and update donor database and other systems
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by management

Essential Skills and Experience: 

 

  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience in gift planning or financially related industry
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and efficiently prioritize workload
  • Pro-active, organized, and attentive to details
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Polished verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) and Adobe
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with varying personalities or in sensitive situations

  • Physical Demands:     Job requires sitting up to eight hours a day and standing four to six hours a day.  Body movement primarily in hand and arm functions associated with normal office activities.  Hand and eye coordination, and hand dexterity is required for handwriting and keyboarding over prolonged periods of time.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  This position requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of no more than 25 pounds, and bending, squatting, pushing and pulling.  
  • Work Environment:     The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
