Lead Nursing Excellence in Behavioral Health Crisis Care
Are you a compassionate, clinically skilled nursing leader ready to make a meaningful impact in one of the most critical areas of behavioral health? The Centers is seeking an Assistant Manager, Nurse to help lead nursing operations at the Glick Recovery Center (GRC) — a dynamic, life-changing environment encompassing the Crisis Receiving Center, Withdrawal Management, and Crisis Stabilization Unit.
In this role, you will partner with the Director of Nursing and Crisis Services leadership to deliver safe, high-quality, trauma-informed care to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric and substance use crises. You will champion a culture of excellence, staff development, and compassionate care every single day.
Schedule: Includes evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as needed
What You Will Do
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
Oversee daily clinical operations of a multidisciplinary nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, and Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed care for patients in acute psychiatric or substance use crisis.
Act as clinical lead during psychiatric emergencies, codes, and de-escalation events, ensuring the use of least-restrictive interventions and strict adherence to safety protocols.
Supervise nursing assessments, medical stability evaluations, and ongoing risk assessments for all patients.
Manage patient admissions and discharge flow, prioritizing by acuity and maintaining safe capacity levels.
Provide direct patient care consistent with charge nurse and clinical RN accountabilities, maintaining all required clinical competencies.
Staff Development & Team Management
Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new nursing staff; provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and conduct performance evaluations.
Support continuing staff development in clinical problem-solving, decision-making, and competency maintenance.
Create and manage nursing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels, and support charge nurses with daily unit assignments.
Foster a supportive, resilient team culture that prioritizes employee wellbeing in a high-demand care environment.
Assist with payroll processing.
Quality, Compliance & Operations
Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical workflows in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and clinical team.
Support quality improvement projects and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including CARF, The Joint Commission, and applicable federal and state requirements.
Ensure documentation and billing workflows are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
Review major operational and patient care issues with the Director of Nursing and clinical leadership team.
Facilitate communication and collaboration across unit caregivers and other departments.
Participate in nursing and organizational committees and work groups as needed.
What You Bring
Education
Required: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure & Certification
Preferred: Current, unrestricted Ohio RN license
Preferred: BLS certification
Preferred: Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Certification or Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) certification
Experience
Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience required
Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, emergency, or crisis care — OR 1 year in a licensed substance use disorder treatment facility — required
Minimum 1 year of supervisory or nursing leadership experience required, or demonstrated leadership of a nursing team and processes, preferably across a variety of patient populations
Demonstrated knowledge of the unique needs of patients experiencing severe and persistent mental illness
Skills & Competencies
Ability to lead a nursing team through change and during psychiatric emergencies and de-escalation situations
Skilled in maintaining a secure, therapeutic environment while fostering a supportive culture for staff wellbeing
Working knowledge of accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission), state and federal guidelines, and survey processes
Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills
Proficiency with electronic health record systems and computer-based documentation
Working Conditions
This role is performed in a fast-paced, high-acuity behavioral health crisis setting. You can expect:
Frequent interaction with patients experiencing acute psychiatric distress, substance intoxication/withdrawal, or unpredictable behaviors; a calm, trauma-informed, therapeutic presence is essential
Readiness to respond to behavioral codes, medical changes in condition, and emergency coordination
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases; compliance with infection prevention practices and use of personal protective equipment is required
Physical demands including extended standing and walking, bending, reaching, and assisting with patient movement using safe patient-handling techniques
A schedule that may include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call or extended hours to support operational needs and safe staffing
