Scope of Responsibility:
We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer II to support and lead elements of civil and structural design for modular infrastructure used in the Data Center, Utility, Fiber, and Telecommunications sectors. Working within a multi-disciplined engineering team (civil, electrical, mechanical) in a manufacturing environment, this role is responsible for designing structural framing, concrete enclosures, foundations, lifting/rigging systems, mounting supports, and environmental load evaluations for modular skid and enclosure products. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical capability, applies building codes with confidence, and can independently manage work packages from concept through detailed design with moderate oversight
Essential Duties:
Technical Competencies
- Structural Analysis & Design:
- Performs calculations for steel members, welded/bolted connections, platforms, modular frames, and equipment supports.
- Conducts analysis for wind, seismic, snow, thermal, transportation, and handling loads.
- Supports design and evaluation of lifting points, rigging features, and structural mobility requirements.
- Modular Structure Engineering:
- Designs framing, skids, sub-bases, floor systems, roof structures, and enclosure reinforcements.
- Evaluates structural behavior under multi-load conditions (dead load, live load, equipment vibration, shipping loads, etc.).
- Foundations & Anchoring:
- Develops foundation concepts (concrete pads, piers, slabs), anchor bolt layouts, and embedment requirements.
- Coordinates site-related constraints, geotechnical considerations, and leveling/mounting requirements.
- Documentation & Detailing:
- Creates and reviews structural drawings, fabrication details, BOMs, and layout plans.
- Develops welding symbols, connection details, dimensioning schemes, and tolerance callouts.
- Materials & Corrosion Protection:
- Selects structural materials (steel shapes, sheet metal, concrete, coatings) based on structural, environmental, and manufacturability requirements.
- Codes & Standards Proficiency:
- Applies IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and relevant state/local engineering standards.
- Understands code interactions for essential facilities, telecom shelters, and utility structures.
- Manufacturing & Assembly Understanding:
- Interprets shop practices, evaluates weld/access requirements, and supports constructability reviews.
- Provides technical support to fabrication teams during assembly and inspection.
Professional Competencies
- Independent Problem-Solving: Performs engineering analysis and proposes solutions with limited supervision.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners effectively with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
- Communication: Produces clear design notes, calculations, drawings, and project updates.
- Detail Orientation: Ensures accuracy and quality in calculations, drawings, and documentation.
- Time & Task Management: Manages multiple tasks across concurrent projects with accountability and awareness of deadlines.
Design & Structural Engineering
- Develop structural designs for modular product frames, platforms, lifting/rigging features, roof and wall systems, and equipment supports.
- Perform wind, seismic, transportation, and equipment load calculations; evaluate load combinations per applicable codes.
- Create and review structural documentation including analysis reports, connection details, weld symbols, and structural drawings.
- Support layout of foundations, anchor bolt patterns, and installation clearances for modular deployments.
Drafting Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with drafters to generate fabrication drawings, structural details, and assembly documentation.
- Provide markups, redlines, and revision updates to ensure accuracy and compliance with design intent.
- Maintain design consistency through templates, libraries, and adherence to drafting/engineering standards.
Project Coordination
- Participate in cross-discipline design reviews to ensure mechanical, electrical, and structural interfaces are aligned.
- Provide structural input to manufacturing, installation, and field teams for design implementation.
- Support vendor engagement, reviewing structural components, hardware, and accessory systems.
Manufacturing, Testing & Field Support
- Support factory assembly by resolving fit-up issues, structural questions, or material concerns.
- Assist with lifting tests, structural inspections, and validation activities.
- Support installation or commissioning activities with site-based engineering as needed.
Compliance, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Apply relevant codes and standards to all project work with minimal supervision.
- Ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance across design deliverables.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts including enhancements to design standards, templates, calculations, and quality processes.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline required.
- EIT certification preferred or in progress.
Experience: 2–5 years of civil/structural design experience in manufacturing, industrial, modular, or related environments.
- Experience working with structural steel, concrete foundations, and load evaluations.
- Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD, RISA, SAP2000) is beneficial.
- Prior exposure to modular structures, telecom shelters, data center infrastructure, or skid systems is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Experience producing or reviewing fabrication drawings and structural details.
- Knowledge of welding, bolted connections, and industrial fabrication processes.
- Understanding of environmental load cases (wind, seismic, snow) and lifting/rigging design.
- Practical understanding of shop and field installation practices.
- Proficiency in CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, or similar).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform work in any environment and various weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow and extreme cold and heat.
