POSITION SUMMARY:
The Early Learning Room teacher provides a stimulating and enriching environment for students with special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Appropriate classroom instruction experience preferred.
• Responsible for the preparation and development of all lesson plans and confirming that these plans are designed to meet the goals of each child’s developmental needs.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively/cooperatively with student, parent and staff.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively/cooperatively with student, parent and staff.
• Proven employment record illustrating warmth, patience, ability to adapt to changing environment, consistency, tolerance, empathy, trust, reliability, strong moral character, good attendance, sound judgment, discretion and confidentiality.
• Ability to organize materials and time efficiently and to keep neat, accurate records.
• Shall have good academic skills in reading, writing and math.
• Ability to ensure the physical safety of the student which may require running.
• Able to collect and analyze data.
• Encourage and engage children in an Active Learning Environment.
• Model and demonstrate developmental appropriate practices.
• Maintain classroom environment and materials in a clean, safe manner with a pleasant atmosphere.
• Assist students when needed with toileting needs, including assisting with bathroom accidents.
• Supervise bus arrivals and departures and possibly riding the bus with students when necessary.
• Assist with children’s outdoor weather attire before releasing them to go home.
• Communicate and involve parents in the education of their child.
• Participate in programs special events.
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Students, student aides and parent helpers.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to work with staff, parents and children.
