Job Description

OVERVIEW
Guides and instructs campers in equestrian camp activities; teaches the campers new skills, and helps carry out camp goals. Guides campers in their personal growth as directed.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Teaches age-appropriate horseback riding lessons in a safe environment
  • Assists in the instruction of horse care (i.e. grooming, washing, and brushing horses coats to clean and and remove irritants, tacking and untacking, etc.)
  • Confidently lead group activities such as games, crafts, horsemanship activities, and riding (both in arenas and on trails)
  • Apply age-appropriate and readiness principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, and respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth
  • Deliver programming based on camp program goals, policies, and procedures to provide a quality equestrian camp experience for the campers
  • Carry out activities to encourage personal growth, learn skills, and provide challenges 
  • Maintain high standards of safety and security to prevent accidents and to respond appropriately in emergency situations
  • Maintain order and cleanliness in general camp areas
  • All other job duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Successful completion of the ASC Greenway Leadership in Training Program
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train
  • Recommended, not required; Current Lifeguard certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed essentially outdoors. While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently

exposed to loud noises and odors. Stands and walks for extended periods of time. Frequently performs moderate lifting and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. While performing the semi-manual duties of this job, the employee works in hot, and humid weather conditions. The employee is exposed to assorted sprays, horse manure, disinfectants, medicines, and odors associated with animal barns. Position may involve riding, exercising and lunging of horses.
