Job Description


Cafe Cook, Non Residential: non-exempt, full-time; on average 35 hours per week. Reports to Cafe Manager.


Summary


The Omega Dining Hall is a large, full-scale, food-production facility. We produce and serve up to 2,500 mostly plant-based meals per day as well as breads and desserts for both the Dining Hall and the Omega Café. 

Servers report directly to the Shift-Co on duty. They are responsible for positive guest interactions and the service, presentation, and clean-up of the Main Dining Room, Staff Dining Room, and Faculty Dining Room.

Essential Functions


Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Be present and attentive to assigned station during fast-paced meal services, while simultaneously attending to support tasks, and guest needs at all times.

  • Tend to routine deep cleaning.

  • Independently complete side work and other assigned tasks during downtime between meals.  

  • Work around knives and hot steam; carry hot pans.

  • Check-in with Shift-Co immediately upon arrival to shift, when returning from break, after completion of each task, and whenever clarification is necessary.

  • Integrate Omega’s core values and manager feedback into work performance.

  • Communicate notable work-related matters to Manager and/or Shift Coordinator on duty.

  • Attend mandatory meetings.

  • Maintain a professional work environment.

  • Maintain and respect healthy boundaries with managers, coworkers, guests, and community members

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.


Work Details

  • This position functions in Omega's Kitchen/Dining Hall on the Omega Campus.

  • This is a full-time position, 35 hours a week. Weekend and evening availability are required. 


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently move items that weigh 30-50lbs for various needs.

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time

  • Ability to traverse a hilly campus in diverse weather conditions

  • Ability to position self to perform diverse job tasks as necessary

  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Ability to observe details at close range.

Compensation   

Seasonal staff work full-time for six months, between early-May through late-October. Seasonal staff receive a compensation package that includes:  


This compensation package is at minimum equivalent to the New York State minimum wage.
