Job Description

General Summary



The Medical Secretary will manage physician(s)’ day-to-day schedule and coordinate clerical activities related to completion of patient care, adhering to the highest standards of confidentiality.  




 



Essential Functions





  1. Manage physician’s schedule – to include scheduling patient appointments, canceling patient appointments, rescheduling patient appointments.

  2. Managing telephone calls from patients, other physicians, and other staff; take messages for physicians and nurses; follow-up with those phone calls and take care of patient and physician requests.

  3. Correspondence with insurance companies.

  4. Enter charges daily into EMR system.

  5. Balance daily collections and send to Homewood office.

  6. Medical record requests; retrieval of and delivery to/from appropriate providers.

  7. Referrals and pre-certifications.

  8. Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.

  9. Prepare consults, surgeries and admissions forms and forward to surgery schedulers.

  10. Schedule consults with other physicians, tests and procedures at UCA Homewood office and/or outside facilities.

  11. Complete FMLA papers at patient’s request.

  12. Fill-in as needed with patient check-in and check-out.

  13. Patient insurance verification and verification of patient demographics.

  14. Assists other secretaries in office and company, which may include some travel to other outlying offices or the Homewood office location.

  15. Attends staff meetings as required.

  16. Conducts self in accordance with UCA’s policies and procedures.

  17. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

  18. Other duties as assigned.
