POSITION SUMMARY


Help maintenance workers in maintenance, parts replacement, and repair of building components, equipment, tools, and machinery. Perform duties such as furnishing tools, materials, and supplies to other workers; clean work areas, machines, and tools.  Be available for moving equipment, furnishings, and materials as needed.

Essential Functions Statement(s)



  • Tend and observe equipment and machinery to verify efficient and safe operation.

  • Operate backhoe, forklifts, tractors, and other maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Pickup (receive) and move equipment, furniture, and other items from vendors and location to location as needed.

  • Examine and test machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning.

  • Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts, using hand or power tools.

  • Install or replace machinery, equipment, and new or replacement parts and instruments, using hand or power tools.

  • Clean or lubricate vehicles, machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects, using hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment.

  • Apply protective materials to equipment, components, and parts to prevent defects and corrosion.

  • Transfer tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to and from workstations and other areas.

  • Disassemble broken or defective equipment to facilitate the repair and reassemble equipment when repairs are complete.

  • Assemble and maintain physical structures using hand or power tools.

  • Provide assistance to more skilled workers involved in the adjustment, maintenance, part replacement, and repair of tools, equipment, and machines.

  • Position vehicles, machinery, equipment, physical structures, and other objects for assembly or installation using hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment.

  • Be available for moving equipment, furnishings, and materials as needed.

  • Prepare workstations for use by mechanics and repairers.

  • Accept and complete job/work orders as assigned.

  • Document completion of work orders.

  • Work to implement the Desegregation Plan of the District.

  • Adhere to the policies of the North Little Rock School District.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Plant Services.

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)


Experience: Three to five years related experience preferred


Computer Skills


Basic hand-held personal communications/information instrument operation preferred.

Other Requirements


Valid Arkansas Driver's License, ability to successfully pass pre-employment background checks, ability to pass pre-employment drug and background checks, as well as "random" drug testing. The work environment is generally located in a school setting with frequent contact with students and adults. The Maintenance employee is to display appropriate behavior with students at all times.
