Job Description

McCormick Taylor is seeking an experienced Structural/Bridge Engineer (Structural Engineer III) with a minimum of 6 years of bridge design experience to join our Columbia, SC or Charleston, SC office location. The primary duties of the Structural Engineer III are to perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and SCDOT and NCDOT specifications and standards. Qualified candidates should have a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; geotechnical/foundation design, substructure design, superstructure design, and retaining and noise walls.  This position will also provide the opportunity to develop and lead the regional SC and NC structural engineering group.

•    Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects

•    Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls 

•    Develop structural drawings, construction details and geometry layouts

•    Prepare quantities and engineering cost estimates

•    Provide internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability

•    Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary

•    Assist Manager with business development and SC/NC project growth

•    Opportunity to develop and lead the regional structural engineering group.

•    Work will be in a hybrid in-office/work-from-home environment, with some field work and travel required

•    Minimum 6 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects in South Carolina and North Carolina

•    B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering

•    Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure required

•    Experience in all aspects of bridge design and bridge rehabilitation

•    Experience in load rating

•    Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software including a thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and SCDOT and NCDOT Bridge Design standards

•    Bridge inspection experience and NBIS Team Leader qualifications a plus

•    Proficient with MicroStation

•    OpenRoads and OpenBridge experience beneficial

•    Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic design beneficial

•    Possess strong oral and written communication skill

•    Must be able to independently manage project tasks
